If words create, what are you building?

Your own words are the bricks and mortar of the dreams you want to realize. Your words are the greatest power you have. The words you choose and their use establish the life you experience.

- Sonia Choquette.

Unlike our thoughts, which can escape our grasp as they tend to swing swiftly from branch to branch in the lively jungle of our minds, our words are inherently more obedient. Though they have the ability to move quite fast, words can be regulated, chosen carefully, thoughtfully, with heart and mind.

So we begin there. With the word.

I have a habit of saying, quite dramatically, “This/that/you/he/she is KILLING ME!”

Really, Chris? So, you are dying now because you had to wait 10 minutes for your green juice? So you are withering away because someone is acting a fool? Your sweet life is over because they never called you back?

Even though I say “I’m dying” on auto-pilot, I am actually creating a feeling of high drama, high stakes, life-or-death-severity in myself and the poor unfortunate soul(s) on the receiving end of this exclamation.

Try it. Say, “She is KILLING ME!” Seriously, say it like you mean it….How did it feel? You created a specific emotion, and vibration in your being when you expressed that.

The good news is: YOU ARE POWERFUL. Poof! Just like that, you created something.

The not-so-pleasant news: You created something that may not be EXACTLY what you want to create.

I know for me, what I feel when I say, “She is killing me” is a sort of exasperated anguish. Oye…I am definitely not CONSCIOUSLY  inviting exasperated anguish into my life however, it is a feeling I know well. Hmmm…Interesting, yes?

Your turn…

Do you have a habitual word or phrase you use that is not in alignment with what you want to create?

What feelings ARE created when you say this word or phrase?

Is that a familiar feeling/experience for you?

Let’s do better for ourselves, shall we? Let’s watch our words this week.

Can you dare to drop that dis-empowering vernacular and replace it with a more powerful set of sounds? Words that do you justice. I know you can.

Dare to use words that build the life of your highest intentions & aspirations, your biggest dreams, your best self.

The power is on your tongue. Make Magic.

With Enormous love for and faith in YOU,

  1. the word I have been trying to delete from my vocabulary for a while now is Actually. There is no nice way to say Actually. It either comes across as Know-it-all-y,Rude, or better-than-though-y. I often find myself saying Actually and then cringing afterwords.
