New Moon in Cancer: The Wild Woman Project

Dearest Wild One,

Another Moon Cycle begins tomorrow, July 4th, and ushers in an opportunity to check in with our own hearts and create meaningful intentions for the cycle ahead.

Inspired by the New Moon in the astrological sign of Cancer, we will call upon to the archetypal Divine Mother for her gifts of deep comfort, heartfelt wisdom, emotional empathy & spiritual nourishment.

We welcome this new theme, Calling on the Mother, to inspire us today and in the whole Moon Cycle ahead. This theme can be explored in great depth in our International Network of Wild Woman Moon Circles (Find One Near You), in Your New Moon Companion: A Solo Virtual Retreat (Download it here) & right here in the New Moon Report.

Lets dive in!

In the New Moon talk below, we will explore:

  • The particular energetics, elemental qualities & contemplations we can tune into this New Moon (such as the healing qualities of Water, the human need for comfort, The constant closeness of Cancer’s ruler: the Moon).
  • The Archetype of the Divine Mother: the natural kinship with the sign of Cancer & what we can feel and understand about the unconditional love of the Mother.

Homecoming: A Practice

On or near the New Moon on July 4th, spend some time in a body of water. Allow at least 10 minutes to be immersed, held & nourished by the water and all it brings.

Do your best to stay awake for the experience. Notice how you feel. Our own bodies, just like the Earth, are made mostly of water – to be immersed like this can represent a kind of homecoming.

Close to the Mother: An Image to Contemplate

Let us assume that there is no single image of the Divine Mother that is “right”, but in fact, each of us is allowed our own concept of what she is.

When you hear the words Divine Mother, what comes to mind? Breathe well as you contemplate this. Allow yourself the spaciousness of mind to see the Divine Mother in your inner vision & perhaps feel her presence.

Imagine yourself in ultimate closeness with her – whatever that looks like to you. You could imagine she is holding you in her arms or you could imagine that she is living in your heart. Whatever that close image is – hold that in your mind’s eye.

Sit in the closeness – feel. Give this some time – at least 2 minutes.

Notice any emotions that wash over you & allow them – fully.

Journaling Questions

On this New Moon in Cancer, what is your heart longing for?

What would bring you the most essential nourishment this cycle? What brings you deep comfort & feelings of love?

How can you open to a more love, care & comfort on this New Moon & throughout the cycle?

New Moon in Cancer Advice

The New Moon in Cancer gives us permission to love & be loved, to seek deep comfort (without shame), and to feel.

We are now reminded:  Our sensitivity can be a great strength. Our hearts can bring great wisdom.

Allow yourself be truly nourished this cycle. It’s not the time for “playing your edge”, but instead, finding greater depth in more familiar terrain. Seek to feel and open the door to your heart just a little wider than normal – let the sun shine in & the moon light too. Let the world love you the way the Divine Mother does.

As you create your intentions for this New Moon, you may ask yourself: what will make me feel deeply good? how can I allow more love to flow through me?

The New Moon in Cancer ushers in a cycle of emotional depth & intimacy with the world – stay awake & enjoy it.

Finally, I will leave you with this quote to sit with this New Moon…

(from a one of my favorite women – who embodies Mother Love & Earth Wisdom like no other):

“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn.

The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth.

To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.”

~ Marianne Williamson (Cancer Sun) from A Return to Love
