2012 might be the year of the Gemini aspects! We have 2 new moons in Gemini this year and also recently experienced the very special Venus Transit in the sign of Gemini. While last month’s theme looked at the dual nature of Gemini and how it reflects into us and our world. This month we focus on the power of the word.
There is a proverb in the Bible that says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue “. This was the first thing that came to my mind when reflecting on this month’s theme of “what’s in a word?” To think that the power of life or death is at the tip of my tongue is both exciting and scary. It is exciting because I have the power through the words I choose to create my life, yet scary for the same exact reason.
People born with their Sun or Moon in Gemini or with other prominent planet placement in Gemini or their 3rd house might be known for their ability and ways with words. They can make an excellent writer, poet, reporter, teacher, or performer because of their inherent way of delivering words. The power of Gemini reminds us not only of the power of communication and how we convey messages and symbols, but it also reminds us of the power of the word.
There is a huge power in sound. I used to practice at a yoga studio in New York City that was across the street from a Church that still rang it’s bell every hour. It became a beautiful experience to be in practice and hear these large bells ring on the hour. One day on the mat, I found myself listening deeply to the sound and I noticed that as it got quieter and quieter, that sound does not stop but it is absorbed by it’s surroundings. The same thing goes for the sound that comes out of our mouth (or hands for people who communicate through sign language or other bodily movements), no matter how quiet it is. Our words never disappear. They are not forgotten, but in fact they simply become absorbed by their surroundings. Our words become seeds and our surroundings are the soil that they are planted into, and our those seeds grow into our life each day.
This new moon is a powerful day to reflect on our word and ask ourselves the following questions:
- Am I speaking from my heart or my ego?
- How do my words affect those around me?
- What words have I spoken that have manifested into physical reality?
This could also be a day to take a few hours or day of silence from speaking or from emailing, facebooking, etc. Silence is a beautiful practice that can recharge our word. Through silence, we are able to reconnect with the power of our word and bring more awareness to the words that we express.
