When I was traveling in India, one of my favorite things to do was to notice the animals and creatures that were around in different terrains.  While spending time on the beaches of Goa, there were many crabs to observe and watch.  I would watch them scurry along the sand and make their ways into little holes.  The sign of Cancer is represented as a crab.

The crab is a creature that is interesting to observe.  It wears its home on its back, a shell that protects its fleshiness.  At any point the crab can feel at home and safe.  It also digs holes for itself so that when sensing discomfort or danger, it can quickly maneuver its way down and away to a sense of peace and safety.  I loved watching the crabs, but more often than not, I was barely able to get a glimpse of them because they would run away so quickly.

How often do we the same thing?  How often do we run away from something that we sense is dangerous?  How often do we avoid danger or the unknown and run away from it before we even know if it is actually unsafe?

The Greek word for danger was peria, which translates into “an experience”.  What if we had the faith to see what we perceive as dangerous as simply an experience?  Instead of fearing the experience, we can try to have some faith in the experience.  We can have faith that what is happening or what we are experiencing is not harmful, but is apart of our natural and ever continual evolving and development.

This month’s New Moon in Cancer reminds us of the soul of humanity.  Cancer represents the mother archetype in astrology, and the mother archetype reminds us that we are always supported.  As the mother archetype, Cancer represents breasts and the breastmilk, what a mother naturally produces after giving birth.  Within breastmilk are all the nutrients that baby will need for the first few months of its life.

This month’s New Moon reminds us to connect to this Divine Mother through our faith.  No matter if we do not believe that things can change or that we have the ability to change, to put our faith into the mother archetype, and to remember that every experience we have is food for our minds, bodies and souls.

When we have the faith to believe in this support, the concept of danger disappears.  There is no longer anything to run away from, but only to experience and allow to feed us.
