Inspired by the New Moon in expressive Leo, this month’s theme here at The Wild Woman Project is “Stoking the Creative Fire.”
We cannot talk about the Wild Woman archetype, without spending a chapter or two on her creative nature. The womb sits in her/our bellies ever reminding us of our creative potential. The feminine receives the seed of the masculine and grows it within her.
This fertility is not reserved solely for making babies, but all forms of creation be it design, writing, cooking, painting, dancing, etc. Creativity is taking an idea and realizing it on the earth.
To start our month of creative exploration, I have decided to share with you 5 of my favorite books on Creativity. They appear in no particular order. They are all very dear to me.
Let me explain.
1. The Creative Habit: Learn it and Use it for Life by Twyla Tharp
“I read for growth, firmly believing that what you are today and what you will be in five years depends on two things: the people you meet and the books you read.”
Tharp has the razor sharp precision and discipline of a dancer. She is one of the most famous and prolific American choreographers and rocks a no Bullsh*t tone crossed with a deep devotion to the creative life. This book is about actionable tools to start being creative today. If you are someone who tends to be all talk and no action in your creative life, I highly recommend this one.
2. The Artist’s Way: A Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron
“No matter what your age or your life path, whether making art is your career or your hobby or your dream, it is not too late or too egotistical or too selfish or too silly to work on your creativity.”
As far as I’m concerned this is the Mother of all creativity books. First given to me many moons ago by one of the most creative people I know, this book gave me the permission I needed to create. Ms. Cameron believes everyone is an artist. So all of you out there thinking to yourself, “I don’t know if I’m creative”, this book will rock your world, in a good way.
3. Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott
“We write to expose the unexposed. If there is one door in the castle you have been told not to go through, you must. The writer’s job is to turn the unspeakable into words – not just into any words, but if we can, into rhythm and blues.”
Anne Lamott is the real deal. She is an acclaimed Novelist, Writing teacher, and maybe one of the funniest people on earth. Writers and aspiring writers, she will make you laugh your socks off and, people, she’s dead serious.
4. The Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte
“Your most valuable currency is what comes most naturally to you. Cash in.”
Danielle LaPorte is one of those bloggers whose emails I NEVER leave unopened. This mama is a WILD Woman embodied. She plays by her own rules, is guided by intuition, and is an authenticity advocate. This book is filled with exercises to get your creative juices flowing and your inner fire stoked.
5. The War of Art: Break Through Your Block and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield
“If you find yourself asking yourself (and your friends), “Am I really a writer? Am I really an artist?” chances are you are. The counterfeit innovator is wildly self-confident. The real one is scared to death.”
Are you blocked? Procrastinating? This man gets you. After struggling with what he calls resistance for decades, Steven Pressfield reports from the other side. Now accomplished novelist and screenwriter, Pressfield has very tangible tips which are infused with wisdom and compassion. This is a book so saturated in gems you can flip to a random page and get blow away anytime you like.

I have a blog that’s private, so no one else sees it, but I still want to make it look nice. How can I personalize my blog without fucking it all up?.
I use a micro SD card between my laptop and netbook as an external hardrive for my class files. I often download files on one computer or the other without the drive in that computer. Is it possible to set my computer up so that when I insert my drive my computer automatically updates the folder on my removable drive with the folder on my computer?.
