I have come to realize that every relationship, whether romantic or not, is truly a reflection of the relationship that we have with ourselves. I used to feel quite unlucky in love and relationships. It seemed that I was never meeting anyone I truly felt connected to, or that the person that I was feeling much attraction to was attracted to me.
What I became aware of was that I often felt I needed to repress my Wild Woman in order to feel deserving of love or able to attract a relationship. I thought to myself, even as an intelligent, Ivy-league graduate, entrepreneurial, sensual and soulful woman, “what man is going to want ALL of this?” I felt like I needed to tone down who I was in order to play by the “rules” of modern day dating. So he advice we get when we are single and searching for a relationship is to play by a set of rules and approach dating and romance as a game. How about just being yourself?
I am learning more and more about myself everyday, or rather I am remembering myself. I never did not know myself. I have always known myself, but I have been stingy about what parts of myself I pay attention to and what parts of myself I share, especially within relationships. By putting confines on myself and my expression, I am restricting my beautiful and wild spirit, and I am telling this wild part of me that she is a hurdle to me being in a romantic relationship. Where the truth is, is that this wild spirit is the part of me most likely to help attract the partner who can respect me and love me wholistically. This is what will encourage my partner to share their own wild spirit with me, and for us as a partnership to build a wild, loving and spiritual healthy relationship together. I use the term wholistic a lot, not only when it comes to health, but when it comes to relationships and I have learned that I want a wholistic relationship. This means not just one that is only sexual, or only intellectual, or only one way, but that is all ways at once, including spiritual.
There are still times when I feel afraid to let myself be wildly free, and to let my inner Wild Woman shine and be the star of the show. Yet each day I am finding ways to let her be seen not only by others, but seen by myself as well, and I am 100% certain that this is adding to my relationships being richer and divine in all ways.
