I thought I was going to marry him.

We planned out our wedding playlist, we had cats and an apartment. We even named our unborn daughter Miles. She was going to be the coolest.

But the end came. I knew it was time and so did he. With tears in my eyes, I pulled the plug.

And just like that, the familiar world I knew began to decay. I started the process of letting my best friend of 4 years go. All certainty was out the window. I was terrified and heartbroken.

I called Lindsey.

“I broke up with Dave.”
“Where are you? I will be there in 10 minutes.”
She dropped everything and insisted on buying me dinner.
I had no appetite and she gently coaxed me, “at least have a little soup.”

I ordered a tomato soup. I sipped and sobbed my way through the meal.
She listened.

By the end of our meal, with a belly full of soup, I knew that somehow it was going to be okay. I wasn’t alone in the world. I had a vague feeling that this was actually the beginning of an adventure.

Lindsey’s generosity of spirit in the next few months, as my life drastically changed, was unshakeable. There were sleepovers and walks and countless phone calls but it is that bowl of soup that stays with me.

This amazing woman, with a life of her own, dropped everything because she knew what it was like to have her heartbroken and she wasn’t going to let me go it alone. She was going to sit and make sure I ate my soup.

This month we are focusing on savoring and my question to you is, Truth: “Do you savor your friendships? Do you nourish? Do you allow yourself to adore your girlfriends?”

Dare: I urge you to find time this week to call your friends, make a date. Listen and share. See for them all they wish to be, all they truly are. Help them in whatever way you can.

Debunk myths of catty, competitive girlfriends with you radical acceptance and love for your friends.

Connect with your sisters because the truth is when the shit really goes down, your strong friendships will save you.

With BIG love,

Chris

P.S~Share this with a friend who was there for you. Remind them how grateful you are.
