This month we are focusing on The Art of Belonging. We are asking ourselves: How can we be at home in our skin, in the world?
On Oprah.com, Shame Researcher Brene Brown writes:
The truth is: Belonging starts with self-acceptance. Your level of belonging, in fact, can never be greater than your level of self-acceptance, because believing that you’re enough is what gives you the courage to be authentic, vulnerable and imperfect. When we don’t have that, we shape-shift and turn into chameleons; we hustle for the worthiness we already possess.
This shape-shifting, this morphing to please others creates a disconnect between who we really are and who we are being. I know that you are committed to being authentic so made this list for you: 2 things to stop caring about (this week) plus an example of what you could care about instead.
Try these on in the week ahead and watch your creativity, confidence and expression soar.
Stop caring about:
1. What other people think.
Instead of wasting your precious time worrying what he thought of the date, what your professor thinks of your piece, what your mom thinks of your husband, what your neighbor thinks of your parenting skills, what your student thinks of your teaching, and so forth, use that energy to tune into what you actually think.
What clears your head? Hiking, dancing, swimming? Do that.
When the “I wonder that_____thinks about_____” thought enters, let it simply be a clue to tune in and ask yourself: “What do I think of ________?”
2. What others are doing, accomplishing.
Let me be clear, love your people: Root for them, show up, care about them.
BUT
Do not waste your energy in comparing their life: accomplishments, bank accounts, life choices, children to yours. When you compare yourself to them, it invites competition. Of course competing with your loved ones presents many problems one of which is: It can fill you with self-doubt and resentment. Why in the world would you choose that?
Listen to the wise words of Mary Schmich: “The race is long and, in the end, it’s only with yourself.” Boom.
When the sense of competition and comparison kicks in, ask yourself : How can I do my personal best today?
That’s it. Let’s keep it super simple. 1 week of not caring about what doesn’t matter and rooting in what does.
These 2 little tweaks will drastically up your sense of belonging which in turn will aid you in expressing and leading like only you can.
Let me know if you are up for the challenge in the comments section. I am rooting for you!
LOVE,
Chris

I’m working on company shopping website that uses joomla as its server (if that’s the correct word). . Someone uploaded files with spaces and apostrophes in the wrong folder and Joomla won’t let me delete them in the usual way.. . How can I delete these files (or edit the file names so that they can then be deleted as normal)?. . I posted this question on the Joomla message board but so far no luck..
