For those on a wildish path each season brings a new world of lessons, contemplations, gifts, challenges & support.
Spring is blossoming all around us. Greenish new life abounds. Flowers open to reveal their soft centers. Bees buzz. Rain comes fast and leaves faster. More and more people feel called to be outside…
In the school of nature there are many teachers. Who better suited to teach us in spring than the flowers?
Not so long ago, these colorful creatures were under ground in a tiny seed. And now? The flowers stand tall, bringing color & an open-hegmarted exuberance into our lives.
Listening to Flowers: A Practice
A note for those of you who may be rolling your eyes: If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be writing a post with instructions on speaking to, or dare I say, communing with plants, I would have laughed, become extremely worried about the mental well being of my future self, and then asked…wait, what’s a post? However, here I am, a little wiser & sincerely offering up this practice for you with faith in its power.
Breathing well throughout this practice will really help.
- Find a flower you feel drawn to. It can be outside in the ground or even a potted or cut flower.
- Make an intention to have a 2-5 minute session with this flower.
- Feel your breath coming in and out of your body.
- Gaze at the flower as if you were looking into the eyes of a beloved.
- Soften the organ of your skin so you can physically and energetically open to what the flower is communicating.
- Listen deeply. You may receive the flower’s message in the form of a feeling, an image, or maybe even a phrase.
- When you are ready, send some gratitude and love to the flower for sharing itself with you.
I recommend taking some time to write down or draw any messages you received from the flower.
Doing this practice often will keep you connected to the wisdom of the natural world & perhaps, your own heart.
Enjoy, dear one.
