Sacred Smoke
The New Moon in Capricorn is the time to call upon the Grandmothers. The divine guidance of the ancients is deeply accessible at this time. They are here to bestow us with premevial wisdom and connect us to our ancient knowing.
Grandmother Cedar Smudging Wand
-Thuja-
First, Harvest and clip fresh thuja into similarly sized pieces. The thicker bundles smoulder slowly, which is ideal. Discard any diseased pieces. Collect the stems into a bundle and tie a tight knot with natural cotton string around the stem end to secure. Wrap the string around the stems a few more times and then tie another knot to secure.
Next, secure the bundle with one hand and begin spiraling the string on an angle up to the tip of the bundle. Keep pulling the string taught as you go.
Then, Turn the bundle around and begin spiraling the string down back to the original binding spot. Knot here again to secure. This creates a criss cross pattern overtop the first strings.
Lastly, Hang the bundles to dry in a dark area where there is good air circulation. You can fashion a hook to a section of the smudge string to suspend for drying.
Your bundles are ready to burn as soon as they are completely dried out. This may take up to a few weeks.
