On this Full Moon eclipse, during our Music of the Howls Moon Cycle, in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter uprising, I celebrate the voices of black artists & thinkers who have inspired me (& many, many others). I have also included some resources that may be helpful at this time.

Authors & Poets
↠ Maya Angelou – Anything and everything. Her autobiographical series beginning with “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is a life changing read.
↠ Nikki Giovanni’s poetry is perfect and life giving. “My House” & “Love Poems” are favorites.
↠ Alice Walker – Revolutionary Petunias inspired a ritual last year at Wild Woman Fest. She is one I have looked to for wisdom for a very long time.
↠ bell hooks – At our latest session of Wild Woman School, we discussed 3 big ideas from “All About Love” – highly recommend that one & anything else she puts into the world.
↠ Audre Lorde – What a woman, what a writer, what a revolutionary. I’d start here, read & listen to her read “Uses of the Erotic”
↠ Adrienne Maree Brown – visit her site for poetry & perspective

Music & Listening
↠ Sa-roc –  Here is her recent Tiny Desk Concert & her albums can be found on any streaming service.
↠ Beautiful Chorus – Their collaborative, explicitly spiritual music, is pure beauty.
↠ Album: Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder – A true masterpiece produced in 10972 & very very relevant to our times
↠ Rachel Cargle’s Revolution Playlist is a mix of music and speeches featuring the voices of Angela Davis, Nina Simone, Malcom X, Tribe Called Quest, Mavis Staples and many more.  Listen here.
↠ Imani Perry, author of “Breathe: A Letter to My Sons” on the OnBeing Podcast. A powerful and beautiful conversation where she speaks about the experience of raising black sons in America.

Self Care & Spirituality Resources
↠ Self-Care Circle for Black Women on June 5th with Thérèse Cator
↠ Diaspora Dance Spirit Release on June 7th with Alicia the Dance Dragon Slayer – All welcome
