The very last days of Winter are here.
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring officially begins on Monday. The Vernal Equinox is the halfway point between the Winter Solstice (the darkest day of the year) and the Summer Solstice (the brightest day of the year) – equal parts darkness & light.
Where I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Earth is beginning to come alive. In truth, the subtle beginnings have been stirring for a few weeks now.
We wild women feel our sameness with the Earth, our relationship with the great family of things. As without, so within – we Know this to be true. The late days of Winter & early days of Spring are not for the faint of heart. As in any transition, we are navigating change. This particular change, requires of all living beings quite a lot of courage.
Let me explain.
In the life of many plants, they have been lying dormant underground for a good long while during the Winter months. As the Earth changes its relationship to the Sun and more light is offered, the plants begin to wake up. Seeds underground begin the process of becoming. The journey to who they will be in May & June begins now.
Same for us. We, too, are becoming. We, too, are beginning.
In Winter, in psychic sense, we go underground. The Sun is beginning to knock on our doors now, Rise & Shine, it says. As much as we may choose to hit the snooze button, Spring is coming.
This invitation from the Sun, can spark a light inside which we can help along, if we so choose, by adding kindling, then sticks, and then logs onto the fire. Spring Equinox asks us to begin to stand up, and begin take action.
Spring asks us to rise.
Like the seed unfurling, we have to garner the strength to press up.
Like the plant, we are both challenged and strengthened in the process of trying.
The resistance created by soil and gravity both nourish and ultimately strengthen the plant who has to rise up and out – Sun bound. We humans can often feel this nourishing and challenging pressure in the form of outer pressure such as a longer and longer to-do list, and/or an inner pressure such as feelings of insecurity or not readiness.
It’s all natural. It’s all okay. It’s all juuust on time.
We, like our kin in the living world, are asked now, and also helped now, to rise.
So where do we find the strength, will & courage it takes to do so?
A few things that help:
1 – Reconnect with the visionary part of self. Sit fireside or candle-side, and ask: What am I creating this year? Working toward? Aiming for? Write it down. This is your North Star which will help you to know where to direct your attention, actions & energy.
2 – Begin to take action; even if your knees are wobbly, even if your voice shakes, even if you a terrified, start. You may be slow-going at first, that’s okay, just keep moving. You may feel out of practice, vulnerable, shaky; it’s okay, just keep going.
3 – Remember: The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Thank you, Eleanor Roosevelt. Fall in love with your dreams, however simple or lofty, and let that love fuel you through whatever natural (and strengthening) challenges come your way.
4 – Spend time with others who are also dreaming and rising. Share stories, laugh together, cry if that’s what comes, but BE with like hearted-Souls, who, like you, are consciously becoming. Imagine your community as a field of wild flowers; there is beauty in numbers.
I’m old enough to know, that 99.9% of the time, our plans & dreams don’t work out exactly like we think they will. Life presents wildish twist & turns. That, you count on.
Like the early spring flower who quite unexpectedly gets buried in snow on some random April day, we, too, have things come up in life that were not in the vision. How we deal is a true test of character. Do we quit or adjust the plan? Do we get bitter or do we embrace what is and grow through it?
At this *almost* Equinox time, I lay at your feet this prayer I’ve been walking around with for a few weeks. A prayer in and from my Soul for we humans who have truly been through the ringer these past few years:
May we dare to dream again.
May we gather the courage to rise.
May we build strong fires inside.
May we light up the whole world with our beautiful dreams.
May we take skillful action toward them.
Deepest Equinox blessings to you and yours.
♥️ & Howls,
C
