Disasters have a way of whittling life down to what is essential.

A storm comes in and you just try to make sure you stay alive, and those around you stay alive.

Then neighbors – you make sure there is water for those who need, food for those who need, shelter for those who need.

You pray for word that all your loved ones are safe – and each time you hear back, a holy wave relief flows through you, staining your cheeks.

You hear the stories of those who were not so lucky and you shake your head and imagine their final moments and weep.

You know there are others who need help that is beyond your reach & you pray for the helpers to find their way, you wonder at their generosity and strength and care of strangers.

As the days pass on, a hug from a friend becomes medicine.

A smile and kind word becomes the only important currency.

You think how can I help?, and you don’t stop helping.

And eventually, you realize that people all over the world have been thinking of you, of us – coordinating circles and circles of support and you remember that Love is still the most powerful force in the Universe.

You stand in awe of the resilience and beauty that surrounds you.

When I was able to read all of your replies to the email I sent to the community last Friday, I cried – a lot. Thank you to those who wrote in. I saved your replies so I’d always remember that my little life, and my long held mission to create Circles and Circles of support are holding me too.

I have lit a candle everyday, in tiny piece of pottery made of earth by the hands of a beloved sister, offered as a gift at Fest, to keep you close, and to help me to remember.

Thank you, my sisterhood.

I will never forget the power of your wild hearts to offer balm and prayers and physical support when we’ve needed it the most.

In truth, I’ve never really understood why at every fork in the road, every heartbreak, every breakthrough, every life-altering event, I turn toward making Circles. I just do as I’m told.

Thank you for shining your light on that mystery of my life.

Ever Yours,

Chris
