About The Campfire Series:
Here at The Wild Woman Project, we deeply believe in the power of learning from and celebrating each other’s diverse experiences, stories, and perspectives. We also believe there is great power in allowing yourself to be witnessed. The Campfire Series gives us the feeling of gathering with our closest sisters around a fire (or a candle, or a bottle of wine) and sharing intimate stories. Naturally, when women gather, no two experiences are the same. These stories can range from sharing deep epiphanies, “hell yaasss” moments, heartaches, and downright silliness.

Mishel is Ecuadorian-born & NYC-bred, and she currently resides in Western Massachusetts, where she teaches the art of Sacred Self Care through classes, workshops, events and retreats. She is currently working on her first book, a Self-Care guide that weaves together modern & ancient practices with women‘s cycles and Mother Nature’s seasons.
Dear Mishel, Sister-Mama, Yes! This too shall pass. And how rich the lessons of the *tired now* are. Embodying the pain and fatigue and simply listening to what it has to offer brings us so much deep healing and compassion. After 5 years of mothering I’m finally learning this, and also finding new freedoms I didn’t before think were possible. It’s all a process of mini deaths and births, like you said. Thank you for sharing this wisdom! Motherhood is a grand & continual initiation! Sending you & your sweet babe love. ❤️
Thank you for sharing Mishel! I am dealing with chronic pain at the moment and it has me feeling 180 degrees away from my normal self. I find myself not wanting to be in my body at all, yet I know that is what this experience is calling for. To be fully with it, and to trust that in time I will rise and feel good again. Blessings and prayers for healing for you and your son.
You do not practice faith for the good times , you practice it for when the times you need it, you have developed a deep garden. As women we are incredibly strong. With all that is lost, something remains, this is what mothering does. It breaks the old self and shows us who we are- when we have the least of our old selves to prop is up.
Deare Mishel
Thanks for being the first in the campfire series.
I loved your article on embodiment and your raw and honest sharing of where you are at right now. When we share from a place of truth and vulnerability we give each other a chance to see the same in ourselves.
Mishel you’re a great writer and so pleased your writing a book.
I experienced your self care workshop at FEST and I’m still feeling the amazing effects it had on me. Walking taller and loving myself from the inside out. 💗💗💗💗
Interesting expansion of horizons, Mishel. When we are in physical pain we tend to want to eject from the body, but I’ve been learning to surrender and then repeat, “I can do this!” It’s more difficult when we try to push it all away and negate situations. I recently fell and just found out that my arm is fractured. It been a very harrowing couple of weeks. Looking for the lessson has been healing. For the first time, I haven’t been abandoned by friends.which has been a familiar life long pattern. Just trying to figure out why it shifted.
Thank you for sharing. I hope to become as open and honest as you have allowed yourself to be, venturing into the WWP Teacher Training. How freeing it is when we allow to show our vulnerable side. And you are so right, we will come around to this many more times, becoming less burdened.
Beautiful vulnerable shimmering share, Mishel. As one who has walked a similar path, lost from myself more often than I’d have cared to admit in family crises, this ebb and flow of what feels like full embodiment is the teacher. It’s taught me to linger for maybe 10 seconds in the deliciousness of whatever is at hand… because, frankly, that’s all the time we have sometimes. And pleasures of the body — enjoying our senses and sensitivity — are too essential to live without.
But now, with my 3 children long gone, grown into magnificent adults, that lesson is still my best tool for embodiment. It’s the few moments I take all though the day — as much as the massages and body practices I love — that make me the embodied woman at 60.
