Women’s Circles are a potent contemplative tool for the modern woman.
The practice of Wild Woman Project Circles seems simple at first: Call a group of women together for a couple of hours. Light a candle, have them center in their heart using breath and attention. Introduce a theme, meditate to explore our relationship to that theme, share with one another & listen. Set Intentions for our life outside of Circle and close.
What comes of this simple practice is a felt experience of the sacred feminine who by her very nature wishes to nurture life. She’s not hung up on laying down laws. She’s about showing her children how to listen in, how to trust the wisdom inside, and how to take care of one another.
This is exactly what the Matriarch of my family does. My Grandmother, a.k.a. Grambo, teaches me all the time about the nature of the feminine by living as she does. She gathers us together. She makes each and every one of us feel loved. She nurtures our growth with encouragement, honest reflection, and help. Though we never talk about God together, to me, she is the sacred feminine embodied.
It never stops being bizarre that acknowledging and honoring the sacred feminine is considered by some controversial and even transgressive. This is where the rebellious nature of the wild woman archetype, who says, who cares what anyone else thinks?, comes in handy.
From where I sit it seems so clear: what we need most is balance. Doing/being, expressing/listening, and the masculine/feminine. I consider Women’s Circles a balancing force in our lives and in the world.
So, I will continue to hold them with care, and to teach others how to do it too.
Grounded in the wisdom of nature, anchored by a trust in ourselves, and with the imperative to take care of one another – by showing up for Circle, we are tending to our hearts and the hearts of our communities.
For two decades the sacred feminine has been calling me into Circle practice. If you’re reading this – it’s likely the sacred feminine is calling you too. May we continue to gather to listen, to speak & to nurture Life – together.
