“Curiosity killed the cat” is one of the most annoying expressions I know. It has always pushed my buttons.
What does it mean? Don’t go pokin’ around for information and truth, you may just die???
Well maybe it’s the Eve in me, all hungry for knowledge and such, but I feel curiosity does not kill. Actually, quite the opposite: It births.
It births intimate relationships, awesome adventures, poems, research and the books-oh the books curiosity has birthed!
Everything I teach and write start in curiosity and keep alive with daily doses.
Here is an example conversation not unlike many I’ve had with myself and others. Stripped down to essentials, of course.
I ask, “Why?”
“Because that’s what I was told,” she says.
Why?
Because that what my mother believed.
Why?
Because she grew up in poverty?
Why?
Because that is what the universe had planned for her…
Why?
So she could learn to build something from scratch…
Why?
Because she had to teach others they could do the same.
Why?
Because the world needs to be rebuilt by people who know what it’s like to have nothing.
I’m like a cross between a 3 year old and a gold miner.
Any success I’ve had, personal and professional, boils down to my insatiable curiosity. I suspect this will always be true.
Why?
Because it feels right.
Why?
Because it works.
Why?
EINSTEIN SAID SO!!!
Exhibit A:
Question everything, wild one. When you do, you will find yourself seeing, feeling and understanding deeply.
Depth is beautiful and essential and can be easily passed over in the age of speed and surface connections.
“Be Curious” is our June Theme of the Month.
Theme of the month? What does that mean exactly?
Very good question!
It means all the Moon Circles(happening next week), Weekly Posts, Facebook/Twittering will encourage you to be curious.
This way of being works like a compass for the WILD Wo(man). Try it on!
Truth: What am I genuinely curious about? (It can be anything)
Dare: Play detective. Look it up, plan a trip, buy the book and make an action right now!
See you in circle, either in your town or on the phone.
Sending you bundles of love and wild curiosity,
Chris
