Dear One,

We stand at the threshold between one moon cycle and the next. It is a particularly good time to take a little pause to retreat inward, just as the Moon seems to retreat behind the night’s sky. Poetry helps us with such things.

Today we have the great gift of looking through the eyes of Pulitzer Prize Winning novelist, activist, poet, and wild woman, Alice Walker.

In her poem, She, written for her dear friend, Gloria Steinem on the occasion of her 75th birthday, Walker celebrates the depth, dimension & details of her beloved friend. And it is a joy to behold.

Feel free to make yourself cozy & join me, as we roll this poem around in our hearts, minds, and bodies.
I will also offer up some Alice-Walker-Inspired Play for the Cycle + a mini poem I wrote for a special woman in my life.
My mini poem for Amanda P.

She is the one
who chooses her pink roses
and her words
with great care.

She is the one
who lays her body
over the meeting place
of art and magic.

A grandmother at birth,
She is our little sister,
our cherished counselor
and a treasure trove of talents.

Happy Birthday, Amanda.
Surely your future is as bright
and bountiful
As your heart.

Howl!
